Samee

Privacy

Samee (the website and the Android app) listens to Quran recitation to identify it, follow it and point out mistakes. This page says what it keeps and why. Updated 6 October 2026.

Without an account

The first time the app or this site is used, it registers anonymously and gets a random key. Nothing about you is asked. With that key the server keeps:

Audio sent to identify a recitation is analysed and then discarded.

With an account

An account adds a username and a password, stored only as a secure hash, so your progress follows you to other devices. The recovery code is also stored only as a hash.

What Samee doesn't do

Google's code scanner (Android app)

To add a phone to your account you can scan a QR code. The Android app uses Google's code scanner (ML Kit, part of Google Play services) for that. Only when you scan, Google receives basic information about the device and the app, a random identifier and performance data, which it uses for diagnostics and usage analytics; Samee receives only the code. Typing the code instead of scanning it avoids this. See Google's ML Kit data disclosure.

Removing your data

Data stays on the server until you remove it, and removing it deletes it from the server at once:
